TED on a gentler philosophy of success

Alain de Botton: A kinder, gentler philosophy of success

"Any vision of success has to admit what it is losing out on. We can't have it all."

"I'm a firm believer of justice but I just think that it's impossible."

a few good men

what started out as lunch with a wonderful teacher
turned out to be a series of wonderful conversations
with some of the most interesting people i know.

in school and a few hours before my flight,

i met Mr Eduardo Calasanz
who reminded me to laugh at the big picture
and how He works in most interesting ways

i met Fr Adolfo Dacanay
who shared basketball insider information
and proof that our team has its principles intact

i met Dr Jerry Respeto
who opened my mind to the idea of taking
a masters in anything while away, and theater insider information too

i met Sedfrey Santiago, Esq.
who dislikes "Atty" and reminded me of
some obligations of an entrepreneur

some were brief, some lengthy
and i wish to have spoken with Sir Bobby Guevara
and Sir Leland dela Cruz and Sir Mark Lawrence Cruz
and Dean Rudy Ang and Sir Neric Acosta

but i didn't expect a string of conversations,
was looking forward to only one.

pabaon means so many things to so many Ateneans.
this string is one of the many i'll bitbit

for freedom

for freedom is never baduy.

a friend now based in hong kong
asked me last night
what the chances are of martial law again.

i said after many disclaimers, 10% or less.
he needed a number, i gave a number

but the truth is i really don't know.
what i do know is that

i like waking up at any time of my choosing
i like going home at any time i may want
i like choosing from so many the movies i want to see
or the plays or the songs or the books or the clothes

or the food.
i like not having to worry about all that i want to write
i like not having to mind anyone's security detail
i like not having to care where to pass by at night
i like not having to demand for my rights

i don't know which of these i will lose
if that little girl does lose all her sanity
but i believe freedom's a basic need

and if i'd have to be public enemy just to prove that,
then it's worth a try.

a little paranoia won't hurt.

a note to Share

Dear Share,

It annoys me every time I don't see you in a good crazy interesting page.
But now that I think about it, two or three years ago, it would have been so much harder to find you. If you ever existed at all.

You are almost everywhere now.
Even at the bottom of this very page, I think.

That is all. Just wanted to share.

Regards.
