Statement of the Moment #23

A man who started with no money and few supporters has out-thought, out-organised and out-fought the two mightiest machines in American politics—the Clintons and the conservative right.

Statement of the Moment #22

“The way you pick a vice president is, you get a frame of Time magazine, and you put the pictures of the people in that frame. You look at who fits that frame best — that’s your V. P."

three things

vica dragged me to a critics' night of an adaptation of a henrik ibsen play, the master builder.
it was pretty interesting, to say the least.

but what i really liked about going was having to hear from vica three things she learned from being a theater arts major.

truth
creativity
service
three things that actors ought to work on every time.

truth, i remember her saying, is about internalization. grounding your character on reality, taking root, i guess. i think.

creativity, meanwhile, is about spicing it all up. reality is everywhere so why bother listening to your story if it's not the least bit interesting. vica shares how it's about the highs and lows of your character and using them to nuance your storytelling.

service is about the technicalities. whether you'll be heard or seen or understood, whether the story you want told is actually coming through, being told.

i say, what a wonderful summary of things one ought to do each time.
managed to eat three only-in-cebu food before that show

anita's mongo bread (a favorite since kindergarten)
starbucks choco-filled donuts (found nowhere else in the country) with manila-bound nika
harbour dimsum steamed rice (rice with pork and peas and sauce and stuff)

almost 4am but i have to stay up.
i'm in-charge of nanay's medication today so everyone else can rest in time for her check-up tomorrow. she had a nasty fall and she bruised her eye and that needed surgery.
good thing mama and kit were calm. but we just laugh about it now.

to stay awake, i've managed to enjoy watching three movies

dan in real life (regular steve carell movie only better, much much better)
all that jazz (bob fosse's semi-autobiographical movie)
star wars revenge of the sith (oh yeah, wikipedia calls it an epic space opera)

three days left for sim city.

truth, creativity, service

what is this there's more

but wait there's more
what is this 'there's more
-justin see during my last strains planning and evaluation seminar, ever.

like so many in this wonderful org and like so many moments in the past four days, it was just really really funny and fun. good times.

from daddy lorenz on the floor to jemika on the tray-house
from the sustainability debate to that cake-y surprise

it was 'one big fight' through and through.
and by that i mean it was easy to see everyone's gung-ho fighting spirit.

but wait there's more. what is this there's more?
it was productive too. and i am so excited for this org's days ahead.
especially about client and external relations. fingers crossed.

i salute the s7, goojob!

but wait there's more. what is this there's more?
dino shared the link to the generoso brandy tv ad we had a hand in.

me happy seeing some of our ideas actually aired. woohoo

but wait there's more. what is this there's more?
me off to cebu in a bit. printing my ticket in a bit.
this break better be gooood.

good wood and a wank

a good wank in the head (of course) makes up for lost time.

there's something about novels
that heightens your senses all of a sudden.
like when nibbling an omelette in between pages
you notice the cheese and how unusually sweet this particular one is.

maybe 'cause you suddenly have this urge
to put everything into words.
even the sweetness of this cheese.

norwegian wood is good.
like funny good. i mean seriously.
thank you roommate ansel for leaving it on your bed for me to read without prior consent.

makes this supplementary Dacanay reading easier to read.
the intersection of the rational claim and the sacred claim axes.

today was the start of this song interpretation workshop too.
thank you blueREP for that.

i can't wait for my break in cebu
but i'm not sad at all that i have to go through
some of these other stuff, including my last strains evsem ever, first before
pusu, danggit, and mangoes

i echo calvin and hobbes: the days are just packed.
bumped on Sir Calasanz along katipunan a few hours ago

and his two words i sure hope would come true:
be happy!

to you too.

wishful thinking

knowing you read this
makes me smile.

on a less cheesy note,

i saw a teaser on tv
and i have a very good feeling it's that ad dino and i were pitching to this particular brand of brandy last summer while playing around as interns for this ad agency.

hoping to high heavens that it was indeed our storyboard
they're bringing to life.

malapit na
says the teaser.

woohoo.
OHYEAH!!!

reflections

i have quite a number of reflection papers to do for my political science and business subjects.
quite plenty a number, in fact.

tim had a good status message.
something about the fact that the hardest position to be in is to be working on the last requirement for a particular semester.

simply because the break is just too close.
and it's easy to procrastinate.
too easy.

super easy.
i have been switching from watching tv to checking out liberal blogs every now and then just to delay finishing these reflection papers.

good thing i was finally able to start on a couple.
just a couple left.

and here i am delaying it again.
i'd certainly be grateful if i finish this soon.

but am i not to delay gratification too?
stop rationalizing, karl.

get on with it.
yey.

Statement of the Moment #21

Tonight as those candidates debate, an army of internet fact checkers will be trying to separate fact from fiction, acting as judge and jury as to which candidate is telling the truth or a tall tale. While most of these sites are non-partisan, timely and useful, like Factcheck.org and Politifact, remember, they are uh...well, their facts are -- no one is checking the fact checkers. And their facts...unlike science...the facts are not irrefutable.

bamboozled

i think this was the song gio was referring to.

this sem is almost over and i'm just really really excited for the weeks to come.
especially for iamchange2010.

i am real thankful too for this sem.
thank You.

this song should be a hellweek-finalsweek theme song

Kailan? kailan ko gagawin kundi ngayon
Tao po nananawagan lang naman ako
Saan? kailangan nating simulan
Tao po nangangailangan lang ng tulong nyo

hard and soul

it's always so hard to start from scratch.
until you realize you never really,

and that there's always something to start with.
even if you don't mean to

sometimes
you just want to make love.
in make's every brilliant sense.

Statement of the Moment #20

"Any way we can just get Tina Fey to do it?"

don't vote

read somewhere that this was google's idea.

and now that my second to the last sem is almost over, i can think of more important things like a really cool iamchange video. must think.

God was really really generous today.
my final final final orals for Fr Dacanay was about some thesis statement that was slightly less complicated than the rest. woohoo.

my final final final political science presentation turned out good too.

so i just had to go out even if bj and steph had other better, more interesting things to do.
spit night at magnet katipunan.
good food. good laughs. good times.

my titos think i study too hard.
i just smile in reply.

i think studying is too hard.
at least sometimes.
at least several of my strains kids think so.

when asked "how are you?" earlier,
replies included: "sad" "pressured" "dying" "grar" "dead"

they'll be fine soon.
don't ever ever believe a sentence that starts with don't.

and i just wanted to share that.

crunch time

so my silly excuse for not studying as much for my german orals yesterday was watching that bailout-credit crunch debacle on tv 'til the wee.

ended up awake until the wee hours again.

now it's time to study for my final theology orals and my final political science presentation. plus at least a dozen reflection papers in between.

it gets old, whining about things you have to do.
the really nice part is to see yourself actually do things.

i wonder when i'd start.
