Full

it's always exciting to be with a different set of people.
today they were ngo heads, administrative officers, mayors, governors,
people doing a good deal for local autonomy and liberal democracy.
fancy sounding words but real needs nonetheless.
click here to prove my point.

on my way home through greenbelts, a landmark, gloriettas and a shangri-la
i just wanted to stop everyone on their tracks and share what i just heard, seen, read from that training. just to let the so-much-good-stuff out

i should do that some time. just to freak out some people.
disturb them. as dr abueva would pray

i had more questions for him regarding federalism and why it seems to require a parliamentary form of government based on concom's proposals. dr azurin of one voice was reassuring.

dr brilliantes and dr guevarra were just brilliant. for local autonomy and local finance, respectively. if you're interested in any of these, we need to talk. over a cup of coffee will be fine.

sometimes "Full" would suffice. it's real huge a word. aww Full
i'd have to drop by school tomorrow though before makati, for philosophy and marketing
then back again for taxation. yes Full

and roma mia's baby back ribs in cebu are still the best but those brownies saved that resto. so yes, real Full

in Harmony

every time i read a book on theater i am reminded of something new.

this time it's
A Sense of Direction: Some Observations on the Art of Directing
by William Ball

Here's his take on consciousness:

"The experience of consciousness is the awareness of self. The first human experience is "I am." Consciousness is the beginning. "I am" is the beginning. Now, after consciousness comes identity. When a word is placed after "I am," universal consciousness becomes individuated. Absolute becomes focused on relative. "I am a director." Suddenly my consciousness is limited and defined. The individual's belief in his identities gives a pattern to his reality and a definition to his activity. He limits his beliefs in order to maintain identities that are manageable, comfy, respectable.

"Now, the actor commits himself to a lifetime of beliefs in an endless series of identities. The actor spends his professional life completing the phrase "I am"; and every time he plays a different part, he completes that phrase differently. An actor is perpetually combining the primary statement of consciousness with identity, and that identity is constantly changing. The actor has an empty space after the phrase "I am"; the actor says, "I am anyone and I am everyone." That's what makes an actor different from a broker.

"The actor makes a profession of believing in many identities. Ask an actor if he would limit his potential identities or limit his power of belief. No. An actor claims the unlimited power of belief. He claims he right to unlimited identities. He considers that the very definition of his profession guarantees his right to an unlimited power of belief. "I am anyone, I am everyone, I am all, I am Universe." The actor claims the right to universal dominion.

"He may have holes in his socks, but he claims... that he is Universe walking in body. The awareness that he is talking to a person who is the demonstration of Universe revealing will change the way a director talks to an actor. There is no power on earth that can shake the actor's belief that he is, in fact, Universe revealing; but he never says it out loud. People would call him crazy. He doesn't brag about it, he doesn't fight about it, and he certainly doesn't articulate it, because he knows that a man who wears a top hat gets a brick thrown at it. The artist is conscious of a vision of the Universe; the condition of his socks is only material."

He also talks about art, belief and unity:

"There is a great deal of belief going on around a theater during a performance. Belief power is pervasive in a theater, belief power is tremendously compelling.

"When all of the actors believe in what they are doing and all the members of the audience believe in what they are witnessing, we have all component parts believing something at the same time. The actors believe one another, each actor believes himself, each spectator believes each actor, everyone is believing at the same time. All component parts are in harmony. When all component parts are in harmony, we have the possibility of a work of art--we have unity."

wow. philo101 yet again, my only class today, where we discussed heidegger and being in all Being and harmonia. it is beautiful to see beauty some place else and as beautiful

saves the Day

crime thrives in the indulgence of society's understanding.
-Batman Begins

see, even too much understanding is not good.
one should never be too _____.
true and good

been quite sick all day. and it almost reached a point where i really got tired of life thanks to this stupid cab driver who i had to leave behind somewhere.

but talking around and meeting meeting meeting
and mel and luis and geoanne and sir leland
and gesu helped.

and that elevator ride. saved the day.
i mentioned to vica at the blueREP room this morning
how the simplest how are you can be the sweetest.
that elevator ride made it far simpler.

and for people like me who love imagining big time,
small times like these are most meaningful.

suddenly wasn't so sick or tired or stressed.

Poor To One

if one finds it hard to match everyone else's standards one makes new sets of them. revolutionary, yes, and always to the maker.
and if personal reassurance is all we ever live for then we're fine.

thing is, i have to convince you of my standards as well. well, yes, i can survive with the standards i newly set for myself, without convincing you. but wouldn't that be a life so bland and boo. beautiful, poetic, yes but you'd reach a point when it'd really get boring.

so the next time one finds it hard to match everyone else's standards, just imagine if you didn't.

quite an interesting day.
took the wrong jeepney after being dropped by my tito some where to prevent traffic jams. so i had to go down where everyone else did. next thing i knew i was dodging buses in edsa.

midnight snack

few minutes past twelve and i'm dunking peanut butter sandwiches on my iced tea.

when more than half of the day's spent on sleeping and eating, it's a sunday. my next one won't be as lazy. all good.

it's kind of weird to see the week ahead in gantt charts with colored markings for each event. and not on paper. it's kind of weird to notice how certain emoticons are so like certain people. it's kind of weird seeing partial derivatives in non-calculus books. but you gotta respect probability.

newly-appreciated word for the day is probabilistic. from Heller's Who Will Pay? you gotta 'cause you'll never know peanut butter sandwiches actually taste good in iced tea.
