o Biden

he sure was right about that crisis.

looming.
looming.
gone.

lost it

sometimes.
it still feels good to cry over spilled milk.

minus the tears
just the thrills
plus the thought that the floor's all shiny and clean.

i wanted to write

i wanted to write
about how i'm really feeling about march drawing near

but like what i've been doing often lately
i'd rather share some songs

handlebars by flobots

gives you hell by the all-american rejects

oh it's love by hellogoodbye

hello.
goodbye.

i wanted to write
and i guess i did.

Saturday, November 22

he scores

from the dark knight to the simpsons,
the brilliant Hans Zimmer always always makes me happy every time i hear his work.

and he is at it again in madagascar 2, which was funny. alex on the spot:

and that wonderful opening for the holiday, of course, maestro:

makes already-bright days a lot brighter.

a man who can be moved

5am and i just had to figure out what the title of this movie i just finished watching on star movies: kinky boots. very very interesting. funny too.

plus that guy who played a drag queen named Lola (wikipedia says it's Chiwetel Ejiofor)
was just brilliant. i read he plays othello well too.

some works of art just make you want some more.
i heard the guys behind august and legally blonde are turning it into a musical soon.

another example of move-y artwork, this SNL skit with justin timberlake and beyonce.
hilarious.

i can't seem to find the clip which includes justin timberlake's skit on weekend update. that one was really funny too.

no peace i find

the moment you ask
when will it ever end

is the moment you realize
it never really does

and so you wonder
why you wasted time

asking the question the first place

but then you hear
an old sweet song

and say to yourself
what a good old teacher once told you:
wasted time is time well spent

wasted time is time well spent
and so the moment you wasted
asking when the moment ends

becomes a moment
worthy of a moment after.

that moment after
when you slap your own happy face
with a notion so sweet and so happy

you never mind you hurt your self.
oh yes.
i tend to never mind.

going acoustic

true enough,
it wasn't as grand as anything

and i honestly just ended up passing around
oodles of likwor, as a drunken lorenz would put it.

who, by the way, is really really ill right now so i hope he feels well.
he missed a lot of songs and food and a good number of strainers who just stood in the corner or sat on the floor or played their hearts out for a good night that started way later than planned.

if there's any good way to spend hard-earned money,
it's for nights like last night.

currently waiting for our first learning circle session at grappa's
which starts in an hour.

no philo teacher can ruin this sem,
especially with weekends like this.

and as calvin and hobbes would say:
the days are just packed.

minus the nasty trimmings and silly ornamentation.
just raw, unplugged, and smooth.
just like an old sweet song.

Tuesday, November 11

our first black president

is binay. if ever. IF. big big IF.

sat in a board with the guy once.
it was the national executive board of the boy scouts of the philippines.

i remember going to malacanang with him for us to be sworn into office.
fpj was about to run then.

boy did he hate her guts.
but they shook each other's hands anyway.
i think.

though i don't remember fully well.
what i do remember was that we weren't allowed to take any photos of anything and act all smile-y and courteous. but throughout my term, it didn't feel like he really wanted to do what he was doing heading that board.

and i still find it too hypocritical of him condemning the other presidentiable's face all over edsa because his initials are in every makati logo anyway. but it's easy to call anyone a hypocrite these days.

on better things...
had fun with sir bobby guevara today. woohoo.
guys like him should run for president.

but i have a good feeling he'll never. which is good.
'cause it will be a tragedy if he stops teaching.
and to think it was still my first class.

i judge too quickly.
doing the same thing for this new philo teacher who i already despise.
hope i could do something about that.

at least the philo guy isn't running for president.

TED on creativity and play

Tim Brown: The powerful link between creativity and play

"friendship is a shortcut to play."

"our desire to be original is a form of editing.
that isn't necessarily playful."

"play is not anarchy. it has rules.
it's this code that leads to productive play."

"you can be serious and play."

"we need trust to play and trust to be creative."

playful exploration or going for quantity,
playful building or thinking with your hands
role play or acting it out to have more empathy

TED on toys from the future

Keith Schacht & Zach Kaplan: Products (and toys) from the future

not just toys really. but amazing useful stuff.

one short day

my final weekend before my final final semester.

truth be told
i might have felt the same way a year ago.
tihee.

but then again,
who else gets to feel the same way twice
and still be happy about it?

this will be the least heavy months academically for me
and i'm ready.

ready for other stuff to do

like movies to watch out for
doubt with meryl streep and philip seymour hoffman
milk with sean penn and diego luna
australia with nicole kidman and hugh jackman

and orgwork to do
blueREP has a miniconcert for GK tomorrow. giants in the sky!
strains has an acoustic night in a week. request!
among others.

good good others.

moment's statements

several months and 25 statements of the moment later,
the guy wins.

but if, like me, you found the phrase 'statement of the moment'
as tacky as high school musical,

it's because it is.
and i hid my rants and frustrations behind particular statements
that proved how even in the most developed corners of this world,

things can go wrong, things can get downright tacky,
things can be said when they shouldn't have been
and that even the most popular guys in the race
either have the worst jumpsuits, the most expensive haircuts or
a couple of flipflopping moments under their sleeves.

because, yes, all these are happening in a place that's an ocean away
and yes we have our own problems to deal with here.

but come on,
knowing they don't get it right all the time
is a good lesson

for every guy who insists that
ONLY IN THE PHILIPPINES
does crap like this happen
or does crap like that get elected
or does crap like these are put to law

their elections have proven that
yes, ours isn't as good
but it's not that bad either.

i mean, come on
even the worst of us can name at least one newspaper right?

Statement of the Moment #25

Obama to be next President

Monday, November 3

maybe because

many people know
i'm really excited about this race.

my brother has been wondering why anyone should care or why i check at least five websites every day just to get updated. i give the usual reply of how this race determines who gets to be the most powerful man in the world.

but i'm honestly not too sold on that reply.
maybe because there is more to this race than just that.

maybe because i've been watching them rant since the primaries.

maybe because i've read too many other rants i can barely understand.

maybe because my sinus hurts but i stay awake totally bothered by this columnist who gets comforted by the thought of a particular governor watching out for "sneaky Russians."

maybe because deep inside me i just want all these to happen closer to home than it currently is.

maybe because i just can't find a good enough reason.

i have to go pee.

Statement of the Moment #24

I also like McCain’s running mate, Sarah Palin of Alaska. Americans make fun of her but don’t they see the merit of Palin being vice president? Somehow I can sleep soundly at night knowing that the American vice president is watching the Russians from her bedroom window in Alaska. You never know what those Russians will do while the Americans and the rest of the world are asleep. With Sarah as US vice president, the world would be safe from those sneaky Russians.

-Neal Cruz in today's Philippine Daily Inquirer (link here)

ARE YOU SERIOUS?! Up to the last word I was hoping this columnist was being sarcastic.
