keys are Key

damn it i lost the key to the main door

so while i wait for my friends who hopefully will arrive, i can't go out anymore till i found that key, i'll share to you what i understood of edward de bono's six thinking hats.

so there are six hats, named after a color

white hat - what you know
red hat - what you feel
yellow hat - what you think is positive
black hat - what you think is negative
blue hat - what you have now
green hat - what is out there

the colors are based on what we normally associate them with, e.g. red is for anger or passion and green in greener pastures or yellow for sunny disposition. stuff like that so we could remember them easily

also, you could pair them up, white and red, yellow and black, green and blue.
so how does it work

when you are in a meeting or when your friends don't know where to eat [happens all the time], talk about it using one hat a time. you know how in conversations with at least two people you always end up arguing or defending what you think is right, e.g. a trial court, and you end up hiding what you know that may defend your opponent? well de bono thinks it is absurd and not very productive. but we do it anyway

so his answer is we use one hat at a time. say you can't decide where to eat. when wearing the red hat, you talk about what you guys feel about fastfood and crap. when wearing the blue hat, you talk about how much money you guys have. when wearing the yellow hat, you talk about the good things about causeway like its siomai. when wearing the black hat, you talk about the bad things about causeway like its chairs. when wearing the white hat, you can talk about where a restaurant is located and its price range, the food it serves, etc. when wearing the green hat, you can talk about the places you haven't tried yet.

what is so cool is that since you're wearing one hat a time, the discussion is orderly and everyone can ADD to the topic without being so defensive or offensive.
yeah! i wish i knew it since before and use it every time thereafter. it's like parliamentary procedure, only better

and it's more than that... i have yet to read the whole book. i'm buying it soon. you look it up

another thing i'm buying this week is alicia keys' unplugged album. damn, they were playing at music one last week when patpat was treating us out at greenbelt and i just had to ask the smile-y music one lady what they were playing. alicia keys is good but you hear her all the time. so hearing her in a slightly different way, you'd just keep on falling. in and out. of love

with you.
i need my keys. i want alicia keys. eek
keys are key and you'll only realize that when you can't find them
and there are keys which you wish you had since before and use every time thereafter
