celebrations
superfest in UP
celebrating pinoy youth breakthroughs was the theme of philippine daily inquirer and hpair's seminar and even if we were just a small audience, we seemed to appreciate most of the speakers who shared good ideas.
there was this poet who leads the radioactive sago project, a couple of senators, a couple of journalists, this guy from mckann-erickson and a bunch of socially-responsible groups telling us to take the long route.
some were boring, like senator angara saying this government ain't protecting the environment [i sorta admire him but hearing political undertones in his speech saying that this administration does not have any program for the environment sorta was annoying, he's a senator so he should've informed denr minus the media blitz if there indeed was no program. so what if he's from the opposition]
some were insightful, like the mckann-erickson guy whose publick speaking skills are very admirable but should be expected of an advertiser. he shared the mckann pulse containing research on filipino consumers and why they buy what they buy
some were unexpected, like the poet slash radioactive sago project vocalist guy who was happy being a two-hit wonder while telling us why he did whatever the hell he did. thanks to nico who thought i should go and to tine and din and mike for also going.
borderline idealist-realist events like this remind me of frank and charlie and mary's story in sondheim's merrily we roll along. yes, we can change the world.
patpat's bday blowout in greenbelt
patpat, who decided not to transfer to diliman from UP cebu, came to manila for this aiesec conference, some student exchange org which she said was really cool [she shared her house with a belgian, a brazilian, a czech and an englishwoman already, talk about cultural exchange]
it also was in time for her birthday so she treated her friends here in manila out [which were only 5 thanks to sembreak but 2 couldn't go thanks to la salle] and so we first showed her stuff in manila where she might want to buy stuff. then we ate at haiku [very good rice bowls, so-so california maki] which was unexpectedly stomach-filling. looked around for music cds and whatnot [finally figured out the name of that painting store, sketch books]. then ate again my favorite chocolate mousse from brenner's. yum. gia and erika and patpat weren't so pleased of my idea of us eating there but we all had fun with the ice cream [they're a sister company of haagen dasz] and laughing at whoever and whatever we could think of, from mountaineering to nursing to poor eye sight. patpat pointed out that kitchie nadal was there but i was happier of raymond the trainee waiter's presence and service. bald men should smile more often to compensate for the hair they lost
it's always so good to see a fresh face from my old highschool friends. hapBday pat! we are to miss cafe laguna
pippin in here
decided to watch a few clips from pippin after, around 2 in the morning. its a musical about charlemagne's son with a lead player who knows where to draw the line between upstaging and not. i loved the title role and his corners of the sky song [reminded me of giants in the sky] and that whole borderline idealist-realist thingy struck me again. are we to go out there and find our purpose or live in spring to the fullest because fall is about to come?
crap yeah, right now i want to bake. bea ortigas from last year's merrily talked about sharing her oatmeal choco chip cookies. i miss her, and the cookies
