she's a Jazz band

or at least aim to be like one.

"There's a saying among jazz musicians: 'don't make it up if it doesn't help.' In other words, express yourself only when it contributes to the larger effort. The very existence of the improvising ensemble suggests that individual and community needs should not be viewed as an either/or proposition, but rather as two tendencies along a continuum of creation. The improvising jazz band is an open system, a dissipative structure, both richly coherent and in constant flux. Thus it is capable of endless transformation. As a network that resolves issues of autonomy and relationship, it is capable of being both intimate and expansive, of reconciling individual expression with the cohesion of the group."

-Sally Helgesen, The Web of Inclusion. pretty interesting and comprehensive look on an alternative way of managing organizations, teams, groups of people. yes, people who are people not machines. it is a postmodern world. smile
