filipino and Loving it

woke up an hour plus than planned but still made it on time for blueREP rehearsals. today is quezon city day and so we had no classes. we did rehearsals at mahar's with gino and kakki and ren and everyone else.

sorta sang into the woods, which was not at all easy
sorta finished choreo for we dance, which was fun

then watched st louis loves dem Filipinos.
which had songs better left unsung
which had lines better left unspoken
which had house rules better left broken
which had a really cool story

that left me a question: where does bulan go after death, to our heaven or to his nine-layered heaven?

surely no one knows, but for the purposes of the story [a phrase the storyteller loves to use], where?

the three-hour musical was a very good attempt at putting original Filipino musicals on the map. highly because of its material- the philippine reservation at the 1904 st. louis world exposition and everything and everyone around it.

a very good attempt, and i must say a timely one, at reminding us of who we really are. sino ba kayo? was entablado's question, it is this very question dulaang UP was asking. at least i think so and i'm glad enough i was still able to watch it [they extended the run], thanks to kakki. kenneth and ren were there too

and all of us think some songs were too sad and sleepy. there were songs that you could remove from the libretto and still understand the story, and more importantly, shorten it to a more tolerable two-hour show. but no, they have their ways

we just have to sit through and wait.
almost midnight, just got home late.
do something great

lisnin to once on this island
sortof readin somweek updates
feelin kinda hopeful for tomorrow's law21 midterms
